This painting portrays the moment from Greek mythology where Danae, the beautiful princess of Argos, conceives the hero Perseus with Zeus, who transforms himself into a shower of gold. Zeus is depicted in the upper portion of the canvas, while Danae is illustrated below, capturing the scene of the golden rain pouring down between them.
